For the 2018 Connaught Senior Chess League, the competition rules will be as follows:
1. Scoring & Tiebreaks
1.1 In all matches, a win will earn 1 point, 0.5 points for a draw and 0 points for a loss.
1.2 The league rankings will be decided by the sum of all individual game points.
1.3 In the event of a tie, head to head game point will be considered.
1.4 In the event of a further tie this process is repeated by eliminating board 5, then board 4 etc.
1.5 If teams cannot be separated still a blitz play-off between teams will be played.
2.1 Each team will consist of 5 players.
2.2 Teams must order their players in terms of playing strength.
2.3 A player may play on a lower board than someone lower rated than them provided the difference in rating is less than 150 points.
2.4 An unrated player will be considered to have a rating of 1200 for the purpose of this rule.
2.5 The latest published ICU ratings at the time of the match will be considered. Live ratings will not be allowed.
2.6 Penalty for breach of this rule will be forfeiture of the game of the higher rated player in breach of this rule with the point being awarded to the opposing player.
2.7 No player may play for more than one team in a season. Penalty will be the same as rule 2.6.
3. Defaults & Walkovers
3.1 If a team cannot field 5 players, walkovers must be given starting with board 5, then board 4 etc.
3.2 Default time will be 1 hour.
4. Playing Rules
4.1 Games will be played in accordance with FIDE Laws of Chess.
4.2 Time control will be 90mins for all moves plus 30 seconds per move from move 1.
5. Tournament format and Playing Venues
5.1 Each team will host one matchday, where a round robin will be played on each day. Each host team will play at a venue of their choice.
6.1 In the event of a dispute, the tourament controllers decision is final.
As these rules are new, they may change as the tournament progresses. It is the responsibility of each team to moniter these rules for changes.
